Introduction to Clinical Practice

Re?ective Writing / Reflective Portfolio

Learning Outcome 1: reflect critically on personal strategies to maintain self-care and develop emotional intelligence to ensure safe professional and clinical practice

Learning Outcome 2: apply relevant Interprofessional and discipline- specific ethical, legal, and regulatory principles, frameworks, and practice standards

Task overview

In this task, you will create a structured reflective portfolio that explores a meaningful moment related to your wellbeing, personal limits, or growth as a developing nurse. The purpose of this reflection is to help you connect your own experiences with the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice, the Code of Conduct, and the Code of Ethics.

You will consider what you learned about yourself, identify one realistic self-care strategy, and reflect on how nursing standards continue to
evolve to support safe, ethical, and contemporary practice. Your work should be written in your own words and grounded in your personal experience.

Rationale

Nursing requires emotional awareness, ethical clarity, and the ability to care for oneself in order to care safely for others. This reflective portfolio invites you to examine a moment where you became aware of your wellbeing, limits, or need for self-care, and to connect this insight to the expectations of the nursing profession.

This task supports the development of:

  • reflective practice
  • emotional intelligence
  • ethical and professional reasoning
  • a safe and sustainable nursing identity

You are encouraged to reflect honestly while sharing only what you feel comfortable disclosing.
