ASSIGNMENT
Introduction
You are required to nominate a significant IT Project to analyse from a strategic and operational change perspective, for an organisation with an appropriate and matching investment in IT staff and infrastructure. A suitable organisation would have a multi-million dollar turnover, and employ over 50 staff, including at least one permanent full time IT professional in an infrastructure and support role.
Deliverables
Your business-style report must be professionally edited and formatted and uploadedas a single electronic PDF file converted directly from an approved document editor e.g.: MS Office, OpenOffice, Apple Productivity Apps, etc. Upload into EIT Online as instructed, by the due date/time.
Tasks
Pick a project andan organisation, seek approval to proceed, and derive IT requirementsand strategic and operational plans sufficient to complete a report on the following components (marks per section as noted)
1. Create a Business Case for the project in an accepted Project management style, layout, and content, suitable to describe the project, and build the case for its recommendation and acceptance by executive management.
2. Describe the Organisation – provide context for the project:
a. Mission, vision, and values
b. Size, in terms of gross turnover, staffing levels, office locations
c. Organisation chart for executives, and the complete IT Department
3. Describe the finances of the business in terms of:
a. Balance sheet in terms of asset base and who owns them
b. P&L statement in terms of annual income and profitability
c. A full-year’s IT operational budget for the organisation broken down into accepted GL cost groupings
4. Strategy:
a. Undertake a gap-analysis in order to identify 5 or more potential alternative IT projects
b. Derive a 5-year capital expenditure plan, and discuss prioritisation and scheduling of the above projects
c. Discuss where your chosen project fits into the above budgeting exercise, and why it is being implemented in the timeframe proposed
d. Discuss the IT maturity of the organisation, and the IT sophistication of the proposed project
e. What technology alternatives should be considered for the proposal
f. Discuss how ‘integrated’ this organisation is
5. Discuss all people-related issues for this project – how will you ensure a successful outcome through engagement of your staff?
6. Discuss Risk and DR for this project, and for this organisation
