You are the manager for a fifty-person firm that specializes in the development and marketing of plastics technologies. When you were hired, you felt the company had little idea what you should be paid and just made up a number, which you were able to negotiate to a slightly higher salary. While you have been on the job for three months, you have noticed a few troubling control issues, and while the market is strong, the company is losing money. The following are some of those items: Salaries are negotiated on a person-by-person basis, with no company standards governing ranges.

You notice that some of the sales team, including the sales manager, gets together once a month to have drinks at a strip club. "Happy hour" often starts as early as 3pm on the designated days. The organization participates in an extremely competitive Chamber of Commerce softball league. You feel that sometimes the league standings (with occasional mid-day practice games which require curtailed production) take precedence over business results. The manufacturing floor has an English-only policy. This has led to several safety and quality incidents due to miscommunications.

You have heard managers refer to those wearing turbans in a derogatory manner. There is a set production schedule, 2 shifts per day, six days per week. There seems to be little correlation between sales projections and production planning. help this manager create control mechanisms which will address these issues. Your final product will be a well-organized opinion paper with a brief introduction, a discussion of the situation, your recommendations for improvement, and a succinct conclusion. Because your recommendations should be grounded in management theory, you should cite the text repeatedly. Please use APA citation format and most likely 2 to 3 pages in length.
