Discuss some of the problems that companies are likely to face when both contingent workers and core employees work in the same location.

Does it matter whether contingent workers and core employees are performing similar jobs?

For example, let's say we are a Bank. JJ and J Bank and Trust and we have 6 bank tellers in total. One is out on a short term medical leave and we brought in a temporary employee (through a temporary agency) to cover in the teller's absence. The temporary employee has been vetted through their agency, and has access to the same information as the non-temporary employees and provides the essential functions of a bank teller role.

The Branch manager wants to recognize the bank tellers for a job well done this month and commend them for working with a shortened staff and wants to have a celebratory lunch in their breakroom to recognize the staff. They ask the temporary bank teller to cover the front while they celebrate. After all, the temporary worker is not the bank's employee. While the temporary worker understands, he absolutely feels very separate from the group and resents covering the front on his own.

While from a legal perspective, temporary employees from an Agency should be treated as contingent workers and not employees, do you see a morale issue here?
