Cookie Monster would like 3 pounds of home made cookies today and an additional 4 pounds of home made cookies tomorrow. Bert is willing to sell a maximum of 5 pounds total at a price of $3.00 per pound today and $2.70 per pound tomorrow. Ernie is willing to sell a maximum of 4 pounds total at  a price of $2.90 per pound today and $2.80 per pound tomorrow. Cookie Monster wishes to know what his purchases should be to minimize his cost while satisfying his hunger requirements.

  • Formulate this problem as a transportation problem by constructing the appropriate cost and requirement table.
  • Use the northwest rule to find an ibfs. Then use the transportation algorithm to find the optimal solution for this problem. (show your work).
