As per our text according to Palmer (2009), the process of change in organization can test the resources of an organization whether resources are conceived of in terms of capital or time or emotional resilience. As the authors described in order for a change “to stick” it must cease being seen as something separate from normal practice; it must become the new normality. (Palmer, 2009). Creating a habit of change and everyday working on the change itself then becomes the new normal and everyday practices of the new change is a learned behavior. Once we learn this it is baked into the organization. (Palmer, 2009). This may not be relevant to the subject but, I feel it holds truth. It is the same as children, if we teach them how we want them to behave, clean their room, and sleep in their own bed. These are learned behaviors that become part of a normal routine. The same applies as employees of our organization, we learn how we should perform, and we learn the culture, we live the culture and we become part of the culture. The range of actions that can assist in the sustaining of change is described, based on focusing on a range of actions to sustain change. Per our text there is not a guarantee that a specific set of action will guarantee success, however if managers are alert to the capacity of the various practices the changes are that the odds of success can be improved. (Palmer, 2009). In reading and understanding that each action are beneficial in their own way. I can appreciate how a redesign of a reward system may be more attractive to the employees after a major change. Providing the recognition to those employees that are consistent with the desired change provides a sense of worth and appreciation. This does stem many flags to those not behaving or performing in the standards set forth. It was a great read on sustaining change and received a great perceptive on sustaining change.
