Tibet is a fascinating cultural region with a very complicated geopolitical history. Today it is an autonomous region of China. One reason Tibet has retained its high level of cultural distinction throughout history is due to its rugged and isolated location. Tibet is the highest inhabited region in the world, with an average elevation over 4,500 meters. The numerous mountains have made it difficult to access the region. As transportation technology has improved and the Chinese authorities have encouraged migration to the region, Tibet has become less isolated. In the last decade, a dramatic leap forward was made in terms of access to Tibet. Click and zoom in to Qingzang and survey the landscape. You can see the new addition.
