Design for brake pedal with the specifications.
Introduction
This Lab Work is a tool for running through a complete DPM-based design exercise based on a specified type of material. With defined set of boundary conditions, loading and specifications, a relatively simple geometry with convenient connections to other parts needs to be designed. The design should be well supported by the necessary calculations in order to guarantee the respect of the specifications. In parallel, materials, production process and eventual joining need to be well funded and compatible with the design solutions proposed.
Conditions and specifications
- Boundary conditions are given in the following drawing. Design should fit within the ‘green' boundaries.
- The considered loading takes place during braking, and results in a maximal braking force F=2000 N.
- Minimize the weight as much as possible while limiting the vertical deflection to 5 mm under "static conditions".
- You may choose the rough amount to be produced.
Report
The report should at least include and not necessarily be in the same order as below:
- Problem specification
o Objectives and constraints
- Conceptual designo Concept development (geometrical shape, production, material) o Choice of material and discussion on material and mechanical properties o Potential solutions (geometrical shape, production, material)
- Preliminary designo Simplification of the problem (free body diagrams)
o Computational analysis of the design problem (simple calculations using analytical formulations! Don't use FEM (not allowed)!)
o Results and discussions on stress analysis and deformation calculation
- Detailed designoThe discussion on the choice of the manufacturing process and the feasibility or the applicability of the choice
o Local stress analysis of assembling and mechanical joints (connections) o Reflection on redesign or optimization (if needed) for the weight consideration
- Conclusions: Design communicationso Final design and the solution to the design problem (concept, production, material)
o Proper technical drawing to be provided to the manufacturer
o Quality of the report (presentation and writing) and the use of references
