Communication and the Importance of Being Understood:
Question:
1. Reflect on an experience here in Canada where your communication during an important exchange was not understood. Think and Feel everything you were thinking and feeling in that moment. Write down what your thoughts were and what your feelings were. Next, you will analyze those thoughts and feelings. Were your feelings justified? Why or Why not? What about what you were thinking...was it justified? Why or Why not?
2. Next, think about how important communication is within leadership. How important it is in healthcare. Provide a reference about the importance of clear and understandable English communication in healthcare in Ontario or Canada. How is your communication? What is your assessment of your English Proficiency? Will your future team be able to understand their leader when important information needs to be shared? Will you be able to communicate clearly and understand English as a first or English as a second language for patients and their families?
3. From all the above, decide on a final decision about your communication. Are you ready for a leadership position in Canadian Healthcare? If yes, why....and support your ability with an example. If no, explain why and support your explanation with an example.
