CIS4055 Masters Project - Teesside University
Project on sentiment analysis on hotel reviews or any other product reviews.
You need to write algorithms and take a dataset
1. An application or other artefact that a business, organisation or individual could use to:
• Address a business or individual need, or
• Solve a business or individual problem, or
• Create a new approach that might help a business run more efficiently, or
• Suggest better ways of obtaining and/or displaying data to support an organisation, etc
2. A report or academic paper that both discusses the research you have done in order to develop your product/artefact as well as documenting how you developed your product/artefact and evaluated it (does it do what it is supposed to do?)
3. A viva where you will present/demo your product/artefact and answer questions from your supervisor and 2_ reader about your project
ASSESSMENT
Product or Artefact:
• Deliverable relates to the specific field of study, demonstrates some originality and is robust in its development (PTS3)
• Addresses the research question/hypothesis using appropriate techniques (PTS5
• Demonstrates a significant solution to the specialised area of research or practice under investigation (RKC2)
• Produce high quality output that demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of techniques and some originality in the application of knowledge
• Documentation -Technical Report or Paper (50%,
• Identify a research question or hypothesis that identifies a challenge specific to their field of study and provide a sound justification based on the evidence identified.
• Investigate previous work (literature review and/or market research) and apply an appropriate rnethodological approach to address he identified problem.
• Apply data analysis techniques, interpret findings and be able make reasoned arguments for decisions made.(RKC4, RKC6)
• Critically evaluate the product/artifact, using third party evaluation where appropriate, recognising the strengths and limitations of the work.
• Communicate work professionally in the required academic format/style including discussion of legal, ethical and professional issues.
• Presentation/Demonstration
• Defend the rational and decision ade in the process and development of the artefact or product (PTS5)
• Effectively communicate and present complex and specialised concepts in thechosen domain in a constructive and reflective manner (PS1, PTS2)

Project Proposal
1. Project Title
<It can be a good idea to formulate this as a question, but you don't have to. But your title should give a clear indication what your project is about>
2. What problem are you trying to solve?
<This can be one of the most important sections, because if you can't answer this in a few sentences then I suspect you will probably have to have another think about your project idea. You can also think of this as the context of your project >
3. Objectives of the project
<Begin each with "To..".Typically 5 or 6 objectives e.g. To investigate previous research on ... To analyse, design and implement a ... To explore the possibilities of ... for ...To critically evaluate the end product/outcome via ...>
4. Expected end products
<Briefly describe what you are actually going to deliver - report or journal/conference paper? In addition, you MUST create a product or artefact - are you going to develop an app or other piece of software or will you produce an artefact e.g.
• Results of a technical experiment,
• Evaluation of a piece of software or novel programming technique application of knowledge and techniques for developing systems e.g.
o Critique of a development or project management methodology and proposals for changes (based on experiment/evaluation/commercial risk evaluation),
o Application of cybersecurity measures to a specific scenario or business sector,
o Guidance to SME to implement a specific technology into their business based on research & evaluation undertaken,
o Cybersecurity techniques to ensure compliance with an information security management system, networking configurations,
o Extensive data analytics on commercial, science, health or engineering data etc >
5. Ethical Considerations
< Please review the guidance on the Bb module for more information about this, but here you should outline what ethical, legal and professional issues you will need to address in your project. You should also consider if your project will involve any human input e.g.: survey participants, testers/evaluators of your product or artefact? How will you protect their privacy? How will you ensure the security of any data that results from this? Is the content matter of your product/artefact likely to put someone, including yourself, at risk of harm (physical or psychological)?
As discussed on the Bb module you need to determine if your project is low risk or whether you need to apply for Ethical approval via the ERM or not. Please complete the table below and include it in your report!>
5.1. Ethics Declaration:
6. Justification for Masters level project
< In this section you should explain why you think your project is suitable for a masters level project. Does it describe a novel technique or application? Or does it include primary research appropriate to masters level work?
