Question: What chromosomal condition results in an organism being only half as fertile as a wild type individual of the same species?

Many crop plants have originated as sterile hybrids of two closely related species. The hybrids are often sterile, but a hybrid plant will occasionally be fertile and produce seeds. What has to happen to the hybrid for it to become fertile?
