The Case

In her position as an Air Force procurement officer, Dana Matson sometimes awards defense contracts to Lockheed Martin, Inc. Matson’s daughter, Erika Matson, and son-in-law, Cory Herr, both lost their jobs when their company down-sized. They have been unsuccessful in finding new employment and will soon lose their unemployment benefits. Because Ms. Matson is desperate to help them resolve their financial problems, she contacts several Lockheed Martin managers that she has become acquainted with through her job. She inquires about employment opportunities for her daughter and son-in-law at Lockheed Martin and indicates that she will look favorably on the company if they are hired. Discuss the ethical issues by using the guidelines stated above.
