Management of Technology and Innovation
Case - Managing the New Product Development Process frog
All responses must examine issues in the management of innovation and technology for frog and demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between strategic management, innovation, and technology. Responses must clearly explain the factors that come to play in appropriating proprietary knowledge and demonstrate the application the key course concepts to the solution of business problems identified in the case study.
1. Strong responses will link key concepts of innovation theory and clearly identify how frog's activities affects its ability to maximize the fit with customer needs, minimize development time and control development costs.
2. Clear concepts and approaches to the design process supported by advantages and disadvantages of early customer involvement in the process.
3. Clear definitions of CAD/CAM and how these technologies are applied in the business context. Identification and supporting rationale as it relates to the pros and cons of this approach instead of functional prototypes in the development process.
4. Identification of frog's development approach and its relevance to various project types. The student must link core course concepts to the approaches to determine what kinds of project will be appropriate or inappropriate for, supported by relevant examples.
5. Definition of frog's approach in the context of firms that manufacture, market and distribute its own products. Supported by the relevant theory and examples demonstrating its effectiveness or ineffectiveness. Must communicate current research findings.
Guideline
1. The case study report must consist of the student's own research findings as a result of carrying out research, analysis and evaluation based on the presented course case as well as current data, each response must have an introduction, body and conclusion with the student's own interpretation and recommendations.
2. The report must be of a satisfactory literary standard, free from typographical errors, void of plagiarism (see below) and must comply with required academic protocol.
3. The report must be typed using Times New Roman, 12 pitch point, page numbered, presented in 1.5 line spacing, on white background and with suitable layout i.e. margins, allowing sufficient space for footnotes etc.
4. A table or a figure should appear in the text closely following the point where it is first discussed and should be listed by number e.g. Table 1.
5. The body of the report should be approximately 3,500 words or 9 - 10 pages (excluding appendices, table of contents, references and cover page).
