A wastewater treatment plant will receive a flow of 35,000 m3/d (~10 MGD) with a raw wastewater CBOD5 of 250 mg/L. Primary treatment removes ~25 percent of the BOD. Calculate the volume (m3) and approximate hydraulic retention time (h) of the aeration basin required to run the plant as a "high rate" facility (F/M = 2 kg BOD/kg MLSS-day). The aeration basin MLSS concentration will be maintained at 2,000 mg MLSS/L.
