Consider an unpolarized lightwave incident from air onto a planar dielectric material of index of refraction 1.50.
a. Calculate the reflectance for the mode polarized perpendicular to the plane of incidence if this lightwave is incident at Brewster's angle.
b. Calculate the transmittance of the mode in part a through 10 identical plates. Assume no multiple reflections, no absorption, and that there is a thin layer of air between adjacent plates. Draw a clear sketch of this stack showing the plates, the air gaps, and the ray traversing the stack.
c. Calculate the degree of polarization of the transmitted beam in part b above. The degree of polarization is given by V= (I_s-I_p)/(I_s+I_p) where I_s is the irradiance of the mode polarized parallel to the plane of incidence and I_p is the irradiance of the mode polarized perpendicular to the plane of incidence.
A sphere of radius R is uniformly charged to a total charge of Q. It is made to spin about an axis that passes through its center with an angular speed ω. Find the magnitude of the resulting magnetic field at the center of the sphere.
