Question - Indeterminate Beam Design and Deflection
A 2014-T6 aluminium cantilever beam is rigidly fixed to a wall. The beam is loaded with a point load, P, of 30kN and a concentrated moment, M of 25kN.m. Both the load and the moment act in the direction shown in the image below. The design team is concerned that the tip of the cantilever beam may exhibit high deflections. A potential solution has been proposed, namely, providing a cable to support the cantilever beam between points B and D (as shown below).

a) Calculate the deflection of the beam at the free end using the moment-area method. This is a baseline calculation on the cantilever beam and therefore the influence of the table should be neglected.
