Class: Marketing Strategy - MBA.

Topic: Ethics in Marketing

Business ethics is one of the most complex and disputed subjects in marketing. The relationship between doing "the right thing" and "making money" has been studied by academics and discussed by business leaders for years with limited consensus.

The line between clever marketing and ethical marketing is often blurred. One overriding question surrounds many marketing managers: What is ethics in marketing and where is the line between exaggerated appeal and unethical claims? Example?

Subjects to consider:

Are subliminal messages deceptive?

  • Is sex in advertising unethical?
  • Is marketing to children ethical?
  • Is it unethical to advertise beverage alcohol products even though it is legal (radio and cable)? If so why?

Please support your claims with evidence (I want facts, not opinions), and all evidence must be cited. Provide a reference list below the answer. Thank you!
