AIM: On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

You are the lead buyer for one of the following products. Choose only ONE.
1. A complex electromechanical assembly to be used in a medical application.
2. A plant-based ingredient used in the production of vegetarian convenience foods.
3. An engineering consultancy firm elected to make sure a new sports stadium has a low carbon footprint.
The buying organisation that you work for is based in the UK. A potential supplier has been identified on the basis of their responses to your RFx efforts and they are based in the Republic of Ireland.
1. As lead buyer, you are required to build a negotiation team that will derive the best value from the supply relationship. Please discuss the reasons why this is the best team configuration you can take to the negotiation table.
2. To deal with the upcoming negotiation in a proactive way, you are required to develop a strategy that will provide a framework to guide the negotiation process. Please outline your elected negotiation strategy and discuss why you think is the best way forward in this particular sourcing situation.
3. Please detail the pre-negotiation phase of your strategy, showing clearly why the information you have collated is important in this particular negotiation situation.
4. Please draft the contract that will form the basis of a formal and binding legal agreement between your organisation and the supplier.
