Yahoo Cybersecurity Case

In the 2013-2014 incident, the personal details of more than three billion individuals, including names, passwords, dates of birth, security questions, and email addresses, were compromised. This extensive breach impacted every user with an account on the site. As a consequence, Yahoo incurred a $350 million reduction in its sale price. The hackers responsible for the breach employed a robust crypt algorithm to hash nearly all of the users' passwords. Subsequently, Yahoo was compelled to sell its business to Verizon in the aftermath of this significant security breach.

Verizon Communications Inc. completed its acquisition of the operating business of Yahoo! Inc. in 2017.
