Only four countries lack a national law mandating paid leave for new parents: Liberia, New Guinea, Swaziland, and the United States. Our FMLA mandates leave, but notpaidleave. At the opposite extreme is Sweden, which provides 16 months paid leave, per child, for new parents. Why are there such discrepancies among developed nations?
