Question: Building upon the work of Project No. 1, you now need to analyze the hydraulics of the stormwater conveyance and retention facilities proposed with the project. This includes sizing all of the inlets (Weir and orifice flow analysis) as well as the pipes and channels (normal depth analysis). At the end of this project, you''ll apply the Manning equation, the weir, and orifice flow equations to complete your analysis.
The project site has a drainage system consisting of 8 drainage inlets that allow stormwater into pipelines conveying the stormwater down to BMPs. After ponding in the BMPs the peak flow will be discharged from the BMPs through a riser or area drain into the storm drain located within Foothill Blvd right-of-way. Tasks
Question 1. Divide up the work among the team members. Each team member should take control of the hydraulic analysis of a branch of the storm drain system as described here:
Branch 1: DI-1, DI2 and the pipeline to BMP-1
Branch 2: DI-3, DI-4, and the pipelines to BMP-1
Branch 3: DI-5, DI-6, DI-7 and the pipelines to BMP-2
Branch 4: DI-8, BMP-1 Outlet, BMP-2 Outlet, and pipelines from each BMP Outlet to the storm drain in Foothill Blvd.
Question 2. Each person analyzes the hydraulics of the facilities in their assigned Branch. The analysis should include details of the size of the facility and the hydraulic performance.
For conveyance in a channel (such as surface v-ditch, gutter, pipelines) you should include details about the shape of the channel and compute the normal depth, velocity and Froude number for each channel and each flowrate in the channel
For inlets (Curb inlets, area drains or risers), you include the details about the size of the opening, ponding depth at the inlet, and the flowrate through the inlet.
Question 3. For each facility (channel or inlet) you should also provide a profile drawing showing the depth of water in the channel or at the inlet.
