Marketing Analytics
You will be assigned a dataset and a random group to work in doing the following:
Your Goal: Analyze the data
a. Each dataset will be assigned but there is no question. You have to think about what is the one marketing question you want to answer and at least three sub-questions
b. For example, if you are giving a dataset on housing, you analyze the housing data and then determine what type of housing would people in that market likely to buy. Always answer why with data to support your rationale
i. Subquestions might include: how many people live the neighborhood I am analyzing? How much money do they earn? How big are their households? How many people work from home?
ii. Remember, if you ask the question, you have to solve for the question with data and rationale.
First convert the dataset to an EXCEL workbook file and Tableau files
Clean the data
a. Retain only the data you would like to analyze
b. Remove bad data records that maybe missing data or have confusing data
c. If you have a large data file, analyze at max 500 records and 10 columns of unique data. You may have to peel off the data
d. Reorganize data if you have to by moving columns to match the way EXCEL or Tableau require you to organize columns (read the material and experiment to see how this is done)
e. Convert categorical data if you have to numerical data (or see if you can ignore categorical data to solve your questions - but provide rationale if you are doing this as to why you are doing this and the consequence of ignoring categorical data)
Create a data library to define the data (put his on your EXCEL worksheet in a new tab)
You must create in both EXCEL and Tableau
a. Pivot table
b. Create Scatter Plots, Correlation Analysis, T Test, Z Tests, Histograms, Bar Chart, Pie Charts, Line Charts
c. In addition to the above look at mean, median, mode
Analyze information -- tell a story about the data
Provide conclusions
Provide recommendations based on a marketing question you would like to answer
You may collaborate with other groups, but keep in mind that you may not have the same data sets to work with.
