To investigate the effects of subliminal (below threshold) stimuli on behavior, a researcher embedded many low numbers (1 to 3) in a video clip. Each number appeared so briefly that it couldn't consciously be seen. Afterward the participants were asked to "choose a number between 1 and 10."
