1. Analyze normal age related changes and disease processes (osteoarthritis, Paget's disease, bone cancers) noting how they can influence client falls resulting in multiple trauma.
2. Describe the preventative methods used for client's with osteoarthritis, Paget's disease to prevent multiple trauma (include; life style changes, diagnostic/lab tests to monitor, nutrition and medications).
3. In chart format, compare/contrast the following: blunt trauma, penetrating trauma, contusion, laceration, hematoma, closed (simple) fracture, open (compound) fracture including: mechanism of injury, signs/symptoms. commonly used diagnostic tests, nursing care (casts, splints, traction etc) and complications as a result of these injuries (avascular necrosis, compartment syndrome, etc).
4. Describe the type of bone injury in the following types of fractures: greenstick, transverse, spiral, oblique, comminuted and compound.
5. Review the treatments to prevent osteomyelitis including: preop preparation and prophylaxis and infection control operatively and post-op.
