Your papers should demonstrate your ability to analyze artworks visually in terms of materials, form, composition and subject matter. Depending upon the work(s) you choose to discuss, you may need to consider verbal/visual, word/image relationships. In order to interpret the historical, cultural meanings of artworks, you must to read scholarly literature on your topic and investigate primary sources, i.e., contemporaneous reviews, letters, articles and books that throw light upon the various artworks' production and reception.
