Assessment Task

This assessment requires you to perform the following tasks:
Use appropriate techniques to correct the data issues identified during the data quality phase.
Identify relevant approaches to solve problems working with available data.
Interpret and show the findings in a live presentation using visuals. Please refer to the Instructions (below) for details on how to complete this task.

Context

The statistical lifecycle begins by shifting from realities to questions and problems, and then moves to data collection and analysis, and finally onto data-driven decisions and solutions.

During this iterative process, the usefulness of statistical and machine learning (ML) methods stems from their ability to identify patterns in data and make predictions that facilitate educated decisions and actions.

Thus, access to quality data is critical to support a correct analysis and understanding. Specifically, collected data must support a proper, correct and unambiguous presentation of facts and figures to facilitate the decision-making process. The use of storytelling is also critical to demonstrate, educate and convince the audience about the findings and their usefulness in answering the questions.

Instructions

In this assessment, you and your team will complete all the tasks related to answering a business question based on a provided dataset, using statistical analysis and ML tools.

You and your team must ensure the quality of the data, define a related question, perform a relevant statistical analysis, develop a model using statistics or ML methods, interpret the results, and create and deliver a live presentation. This covers the end-to-end process with all the necessary steps. The assessment will focus on analysing and communicating the findings in the live presentation.

Note: Your learning facilitator will provide details about the dataset assigned to you. To complete this assessment, you must complete the following high-level tasks:

Form teams with a minimum of four and a maximum of six students.
Refer to the Team Formation Guidelines for instructions. These guidelines include information about team registration and any pain points.
Complete the team contract, including the peer evaluation (online) and meeting minutes.

Please read the attached STA601 Assessment 3 - Team Contract. This document outlines the rules and conditions each team must follow for all parts of the Assessment 3 task, as well as the roles and responsibilities of each team member. Each team must complete the team contract and include it as an appendix to this assessment. As the assessment rubric indicates, the team contract accounts for 10% of the assessment task grade.

For assessment tasks in which students are expected to work in teams, all team members must share the workload equally.

Use the SAS Viya statistical software to perform the analysis.
Perform the data quality analysis and correct any data issues.
Define a question that the use of inferential statistics (IS) or ML techniques can answer.
Develop a relevant model using IS/ML techniques capable of answering the question.

Create a presentation using a slideshow that includes the following:

context about the industry or field, information about the organisation and the main goal of the analysis

the question, its relevance and the benefits or advantages of knowing the answer
a high-level description of the dataset, including the source and size, and a summary of its features and the data types
details of the analytical path, and an explanation of the team's choice, including if the team considered other alternatives and why they were rejected
the relevant results, and an explanation of their significance
relevant metrics about the model's performance and its interpretation in the context of the question
a conclusion with the answer and recommendations.

Prepare a live team presentation:

Organise and practise your presentation to deliver it in approximately 5 minutes.
Use a professional format to create a compelling story considering the audience and the presentation time.
Identify and elaborate on the topics in step 7.
Ensure the slides have accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Use a consistent style for the presentation, including titles, paragraphs and visual elements.
Ensure that charts are correct, legible, without distractions and have a good resolution. Note: Read the assessment rubric, which is an evaluation guide with criteria for grading your assessment. This will indicate what features a successful presentation should exhibit.
