Miranda is a business woman. She has an emotional stability characteristic which Andy does not have. From the movie when Miranda knew that the boss will switch the chief of Runway, she did not panic. She found out a way and consult with the boss to kept her position. When Andy knew the news, she got panic. She went to knocked Miranda’s door. Which Andy knew Miranda hates that. The second example is that when Miranda knew her husband wants to divorce with her, she looks equanimity. Andy has the personality characteristics: agreeableness. She is Nice, sensitive, cooperative, valuing harmony, trusting, kind, and warm. We can found that from she felt upset when she did not get rewards from Miranda, she felt happy when she knew Nigel will get promote to a new position.

In this movie Andy experienced person-job fit and person-organization misfit. For person-organization misfit. Andy has the different personality with the others. She cares her colleague. When Emily had car accident, she is the only person waiting outside the ward. Andy has different value with the girls in Runway. Emily did not eat to get thinner, buy Andy did not care her body shape. In the end of the movie, Andy left runway and joined New York mirror, she also gave all the clothes to Emily that can also shows Andy has the different value for the work. I think Andy experienced person-job fit in the movie. Although she did not even know fashion when she joined runway. But she learned fast. Soon she dressed like a model, she learned all the brands. In the dinner party, Andy reminded Miranda the ambassador’s name.    These are the reason Miranda let Andy go to Paris with her. It can tell us; Andy did her job perfectly.

In the beginning of the movie, Andy hates the job in Runway. She did not put passion in the job. When the night Andy’s father came and Andy could not help Miranda find a fright back to New York. She realized she may lose the job in Runway. She became nervous. She talked with Nigel and cried. That shows Andy had a lot of stress. After talked with Nigel, she started to dress up, and put passion in her work. Finally, Miranda let Andy ship the book to her house. Andy got Miranda’s trust.

Miranda is ineffective in the situational leadership theory. Miranda did not encourage and collaborate to gain results. She let the colleague contend. In the movie, she let Andy to go to Paris with her, instead of Emily. Miranda did not provide guidance and let employees make decisions. She will tell the employees an order and the employees must follow her order. Those girls who did not follow her order all got fired. In the other way, Miranda will assign and make employees responsible. When she wants the manuscript of Harry porter, she let Andy to find it. She does not care about the process; all she need is the result. Miranda is effective in the Path-Goal theory. Employees are motivated if confident: their effort will lead to high performance, their high performance will be rewarded and the rewards they will receive are valuable to them. Which Miranda satisfy all these above. In Runway, all the employs work effort therefore, their effort will lead to high performance. Once they did a good job at their work, Miranda will bring one girl to Pairs with her, which means a lot to the girl. She can meet many celebrities and magazine editors. This is a big reward to the girls. Because, they can choose any company they want to work with. Miranda knows how to motivate her employs to work hard.

I think the company could use the Acquired-Needs theory to increase the work motivation of a person in Andy’s role. In the Acquired-Needs theory there are three needs: need for achievement, affiliation power. Once the employ can get these three needs, they will work harder. Need for achievement: the employ does not want to easy job, like buy coffee and stake for Miranda, they want to get a more challenge work to make they feel the job is meaningful. Need for affiliation; the employee wants make sure they can keep the job in Runway, working for Miranda is difficult. Once you mess up one thing, Miranda will fore you. The employees can not feel safe in the company. Also, employee in Runway can not get good relationship with their colleagues. Although Andy work in Runway for a year, but she is not Emily’s friend. Need for power: if I am want to improve Andy’s work motivation, I will let Andy control some people and some resources. Another theory is expectancy theory. When the employee done a good job, we can give them rewards. Rising the outcome is one good way. When Andy’s father came to New York, he said Andy work until 2 a.m. but her salary is lower than the other job. That is unfair. If the employee did good in their job, we can rise their outcome, that can makes they work harder.
