American firms have been struggling for the last two decades. Why? Jobs are flowing overseas. Why? Our competitiveness in the global market is slipping. Why? America ranked surprisingly low on a recent ranking of nations most favorable to business. Why? Here’s a big one—the ratio of new business start-ups vs business failures is alarming. Why? Many portray big corporations as the enemy. Is that a fair assessment? Why is it that any corporation that experiences growth and success becomes a target? Why is it that when a corporate executive makes a lot of money they are denigrated as selfish and greedy, but when a quarterback makes twice as much it is okay. Why is that? Certainly there are members in both groups who I feel are overpaid, but the businessperson would definitely get more static than an entertainer.
