ENGT5151 Advanced Computer Aided Engineering and Finite Element Analysis - De Montfort University
Learning outcome 1: Investigate and define the problem, identifying any constraints including environmental and sustainability limitations; ethical, health, safety, security and risk issues; intellectual property; codes of practice and standards
Learning outcome 2: Apply advanced problem-solving skills, technical knowledge and understanding, to establish rigorous and creative solutions that are fit for purpose for all aspects of the problem including production, operation, maintenance and disposal
Learning outcome 3: Plan and manage the design process, including cost drivers, and evaluate outcomes
Learning outcome 4: Demonstrate wide knowledge and comprehensive understanding of design processes and methodologies and the ability to apply and adapt them in unfamiliar situations
Learning outcome 5: Demonstrate the ability to generate an innovative design for products, systems, components or processes to fulfil new needs
Task 1: Produce 3D models
Your task is to:
Create the 3D CAD geometry described in the table below (engineering drawings of each component can be found in Appendix A).
Task 2: Design an adult bike frame
Your task is to:
Create the 3D model of a bike frame using the fixation point details provided in Appendix B. You mist design a bike frame using the mounting point and envelope dimensions provided. You must then document the steps required to generate your bike frame in the from a design report.
Task 3 Conduct FEA.
Your task is to:
Create the FEA described in the table below (Details for each simulation can be found in Appendix C).
Task 4 Undertake FEA analysis of the bike frame.
Your task is to:
Use ANSYS workbench to develop a meshed model of your bike frame. You must investigate the structural integrity of your bike frame. Using the loading conditions provided in Appendix D, you should analyse the performance of your bike frame. Using the data generated from the analysis informed changes should be made to your design to limit stress, reduce mas, increase stiffness, etc.... Material selection should also be investigated. It is important to make your frame as environmentally suitable as possible. Show screenshots of the meshed component and the initial boundary conditions used during the analysis. You should produce a report that results and design changes made as a result of the FEA analysis.
Task 5 Produce a 2D engineering drawing of the Bike frame to the specified standard.
Your task is to:
Produce an orthographic drawing of your bike frame showing its compliance to the specification, including a cross sections were necessary.
