Addressing Police Corruption and Abuse of Power

Technology has shaped our social world. The 1990 decision of Congress to empower the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate and respond by consent decree to corruption and abuse of power within police department was in direct response to public response to the video recording of the LAPD officer beating of Rodney King. This video recording was aired on local and national news (The Web was not yet available to the public.) As technology has advance and become more available to the public and with the advent of the Web, the public has had access to more and more person video recordings of police interactions such as the one discussed in the video reviewed above.
