Question

Many adolescents under the age of 18 who have been arrested for crimes may be charged as adults. Some states have a minimum age limit, such as 16, to be tried as an adult. However, in many states, some crimes, such as homicide, are automatically tried in adult court no matter how old the person is. In this chapter, we discussed the development of the brain and the role social pressure plays in childhood and adolescence. Write at least one paragraph discussing some reasons juveniles should, or should not, be tried as an adult. Are there benefits to being sentenced in juvenile court as opposed to adult court? What would be other ways to address crimes committed by juveniles? Comment on the discussions of at least two other students in your group by July 5th.
