Dr. Connor is concerned about the drop-off in patients who complete intake but fail to show up for surgery. She is planning a number of initiatives that she thinks could help reduce the drop-off in patient volume by half. She would like to know the effect this would have on patient volume and capacity utilization. She is concerned that she may need extra capacity for staff and for rooms.Staff surgeon capacity can be added using part-time or retired surgeons, so it is not be necessary to add a full-time surgeon. However, any part-time or retired surgeon must be hired for at least 30% of time. You have been asked to help her analyze these effects. Answer each of the following questions.
Not sure how to upload this case study?
What will be the new patient volume that the clinic will have to meet if the initiatives are successful
How much would capacity have to be increased for each of the resources to deal with the increased patient volume? What will be the utilization of the resources in this case?
Would expanding the hours of operation as described in the case, which is one of the options Dr. Connors is considering, be sufficient to handle the increased volume?
