As I read about the art of the Aegean and the art of Egypt, I noticed many similarities, but also a few distinct differences. The ancient Aegean used motifs painted in blue, red, and green. The Egyptians used blue, but more commonly red, yellow, and a lot of gold. A good comparison of two specific pieces are Egypt's "Karomama" statue and Aegean's "Figure of a woman". Karomama was covered in bronze, and engraved, These engravings were inlaid with gold and silver. She has very distinct curves, and is sculpted with rounder shapes. The carvings in the bronze depict wings wrapping around her. Contrasting this, ancient Aegean's figure of a woman is marble. It is distinctly very symmetrical, and angular. It is sculpted very stylistically, with sharp distinct lines. This figures was painted asymmetrically, using bright colors and angular lines. Dimension was added to the figure using paint rather than actually carving the depth. Though these two societies both sculpted women, they ddid so very differently.
