Case Study 1 - Mrs Greenwood

Mrs Greenwood is 85 years old and has been living in her own home since her husband died 9 years ago. She has been actively involved in all activities of her local church for the past 40 years. Mrs Greenwood has one son, who lives about 3 hours away. Approximately 4 weeks ago Mrs Greenwood tripped going down her back stairs and fractured the neck of her left femur. She was admitted to hospital for surgery and has made a fairly good postoperative recovery, however she is restricted in her mobility and fears falling again. She has haemoserous drainage from the distal end of her suture line, requiring dressings. She is due for discharge from hospital in 3 days time, due to a bed shortage. Mrs Greenwood's son has to return to his job tomorrow and will only be able to visit his mother at weekends, leaving his mother alone day and night during the week.
