Question
Brainstorm or research one way in which our appearances continue to be regulated and how this might vary depending on context and identity. Come up with a specific example of how/where/whose appearance is being regulated, explain the example (you are also allowed to include a picture to illustrate what you're talking about), and discuss HOW this example illustrates the intersectional nature of oppression, as well as what effects this has on our lives? In addition to drawing from our learning on intersectionality, you might also find relevant connections in Mcintosh's article from last week. For example, you might think about the different ways that school dress codes are enforced (along lines of gender, race, or class)--in my own high school experience, I found that the issue of sagging pants for men was not enforced equally, with "jocks" often being given a pass, while alt/punk dudes tended to be penalized for dress code violation. So if this were the example I was using I might think about how these different social cliques are often associated with different levels of social, racial, and economic privileges and spend my paragraph exploring how/why. Your paragraph should discuss what these different standards or expectations about one's personal appearance reveal about interlocking systems of power.
