Honing and Lapping

Honing

Honing is a fine finishing operation. In honing, rotating and reciprocating bonded abrasive sticks, and gradually abrades the workpiece to the wanted finish and accuracy.

Lapping

It is also fine finishing operation. In this, laps are built of metal that is softer than the workpiece and it lightly rubs the abrasive particles against the workpiece. Figure illustrates the principle of lapping.
