Mild to moderate sodium restriction (2.0 - 3.0 g Na per day) is often beneficial for most patients. Restriction of table salt and cooking salt is recommended for all patients. High sodium fruits and vegetables such as fenugreek leaves, lettuce, spinach, beetroot, tomato, grapes, lichi, musk melon, as well as, processed foods and preserves should be avoided. The extent of sodium restriction should be recommended by the dietician depending upon the severity of retention of sodium and water.
