Infectious Diseases

Infectious diseases inflicts major economic losses as the disease spreads from one animal to other and large number of animals are affected with the same disease. Epidemiological investigation and immunodiagnostic tests assume greater significance for diagnosis of the disease and estimation of economic losses. In general, diagnosis should be made promptly and accurately. The prerequisite for making diagnosis are as follows.

  1. Careful examination of history, patient and environment.
  2. Collection of proper and adequate material in appropriate preservative for laboratory test.
  3. Prompt submission of material to the laboratory preferably in ice.
  4. Proper dispatch of material in leak-proof vials.
  5. Well-equipped diagnostic laboratory having biosafety provisions, standard reagents, trained personnel and infrastructure (matching GLP protocol).
