Give the properties and applications of Teflon.
Teflon: This is acquired by the polymerisation of tetrafloourethylene.
Properties:
1. This has good electrical, thermal and mechanical properties.
2. This can tolerate very, high temperature, without damage.
3. Dielectric constant does not modify with time, temperature and frequency.
4. Its insulation resistance is extremely high.
5. This is highly resistant to water absorption.
6. This melts at 3270C.
7. Its maximum useable temperature is 3000C.
Applications: It is used as dielectric material in capacitors. This is used as covering for conductors and cables that are needed to operate at high temperature. This is used as a base material for PCB's.
