Explain Stator of a Synchronous Machine?
The stator of a synchronous machine is made of thin laminations of highly permeable (silicon) steel in order to reduce the core losses. It is essentially of the same design as that used for induction machines. The inside of the stator has a number of slots with normally parallel sides for easy winding.

The total number of slots depends, among many other factors, on the machine size, the number of poles, and the number of coils per phase per pole. The larger the number of coils is, the closer will be the induced voltage to its sinusoidal waveform. Depending on the requirements, the 3-phase windings may be either star (Y) or delta (Δ) connected.
