Enumerate about the Decimal Arithmetic Unit

The user of the computer input data in decimal numbers and receives output in the decimal form. But a CPU with ALU can perform arithmetic micro-operations only on the binary data. To perform arithmetic operations on decimal data, it is essential to convert input decimal numbers to binary, to perform all the calculations with binary numbers, and to convert results into decimal. This can be an efficient method in applications requiring a large amount of calculations and a relatively smaller number of input and output data. When application calls for a large amount of input-output and relatively smaller number of the arithmetic calculations, it becomes suitable to do internal arithmetic directly with decimal numbers. Computers which can do decimal arithmetic must store decimal data in binary coded form. The decimal numbers are then applied to the decimal arithmetic unit that can execute decimal arithmetic micro- operations.
