In my General Bio Lab, we created a hay infusion and innoculatedit with pond water to study the ecological succession. Initially, acidity increased and I understand the decomposers(algae and bacteria) giving off CO2 caused the formation of acids. However, I have to explain why the pH increased tobasic as the number of consumers increased. I'm stumped withan explanation for that, Any insights?
