Case Study 1: EUGENE A 52 year old, white male has molested his five-year old step daughter. He recently lost his 20 year job as an airline mechanic as the result of the economy. He was married for the first time to the mother of the five year old about 1 year ago. She was recently promoted to a vice-presidency in a bank and was working 10 to 12 hour days. He was left at home with the child, stated the child missed her mother and came to him for affection. He claimed he was also in need of affection, and began molesting the child. He never penetrated her, but rubbed himself against her and ejaculated on her stomach several times over a five month period. He was caught by her 11 year-old brother who returned from school to get a book and found them in the bedroom. He has no prior record (not even a traffic ticket) and there is no evidence that he has committed previous acts or that he was ever the victim of child abuse. Sentence Eugene. Case Study 2: JACK Jack is an 18 year old, white male charged with capital murder. He and a co-defendant entered the home of an 83 year-old woman to burglarize the home. He had done odd jobs for the victim and when she awakened, she recognized him and called his name. He tied her up, removed property from the home and returned to kill her with a blunt instrument. After she was dead, he raped and sodomized the corpse. Jack has a lengthy juvenile record for burglary, larceny, and malicious destruction of property. He spent 1 year in a juvenile detention center for burglary and while detained, was the victim of sexual assault. He is currently on adult probation for burglary. Sentence Jack.
