Manufacturing and Product Development

Cell phone companies attract customers by offering a wide coverage area and a consistent, strong signal. Signal strength is measured in dBm, decibels above or below 1.0 milliwatt. A random sample of locations in a company's coverage area was obtained, and the signal strength (in dBm) at each spot was measured.

a. Suppose a consistent signal means a variance of at most 230 mw2. Is there any evidence of an inconsistent signal in this company's coverage area? Use a = 0.05 and assume normality.

b. Find bounds on the p value associated with this hypothesis test.
