Optiz Classification System

This part coding and classification system is developed by H. Optiz of West Germany. It uses the following digit sequence

• The Basic code consists of 9 digits (1......9)
• The first five digits (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) are called FORM CODE. It describes the design attributes.
• The next four digits (i.e. 6, 7, 8, 9th places in the code) are: SUPPLEMENTARY CODE. These attribute to manufacturing such as: dimensions, work material, starting raw material shape and accuracy.
• The last four digits (10, 11, 12, 13th positions) are SECONDARY CODE. It is used to identify the production operation type and sequence.
• The secondary code is designed by individual firm for its specific needs.
