Shift registers

In a shift register, flip-flops pass signal bits along from one to the next each time a triggering pulse is received. The common use for a shift register is to generate a timed delay in the digital data.Any input signal to a shift register will arrive eventually at the output. The output bits occur in same order as input bits, except later. The length of the delay is set by changing the clock pulse frequency. The higher clock frequencies result in less delay, and lower frequencies result in more delay.
