Chromalveolata

This supergroup contains the alveolates, including the apicomplexa, dinoflagellates, and ciliates, as well as the stramenopiles, cryptomonads, and haptophytes.  Much of the supporting evidence for this grouping is molecular, plus when photosynthetic, the common origin of the plastid from a red algal endosymbiont. It appears that the Rhizaria, containing amebae, flagellates, and ameboflagellates, is a monophyletic group within the chromalveolata.
