Continuous Beams:

We have seen earlier that a continuous beam resting on n supports has (n - 1) redundancies representing the reactions at the (n - 1) intermediate supports. To determine these unknown support reactions we have to solve (n - 1) simultaneous equations of compatibility which may be cumbersome if solved manually. However, there is a general method available which can break up these general compatibility equations into smaller equations, easier to handle.
