Now let us start our journey into the realm of Dreamweaver. We start with typing in few test lines in our Design view. See how our work area has been divided in two windows, one displaying our text & the other displaying the equivalent HTML code.

Dreamweaver can display a document in three ways:

• as Design view,
• as Code view, and
• as split view that illustrates both the design and the HTML code.

(To alter the view wherein you are working, choose a view in the Dreamweaver toolbar.) By default, in Design view Dreamweaver displays the Document window. You would be working most of the time in the design view and perform actions such as cutting, pasting, inserting pictures, tables and so on. For changing the HTML / scripting side, you ought to work in code view.

Additionally, you can work with Dreamweaver's Design view in two distinct ways- in the Layout view & Standard view. (You choose these views in View category of the Objects panel.) In the Layout view you can design a page layout, insert text, graphics and other media. In the Standard view, additionally to inserting graphics text & media, you can also insert layers, create tables, create frame documents and apply other alter to your page-options which are not obtainable in the Layout view. In the exercise, you will see how to design Web pages in the layout view followed through the standard mode.
