What is Parent material

Parent material refers to the primary material from which the soil is formed. The parent material may be either a solid rock, a decomposed rock, organic material or a deposit from water, wind, glaciers, volcanoes, or material moving down a slope. In general, the influence of the climate agents in soil formation is so pronounced that the influence of the parent material is suppressed i.e., the parent material plays a passive role in soil development
